Antoni Gaudi (1852-1926), a great Spanish architect, created some amazing buildings in Barcelona. Over the course of his career, Gaudi developed a sensuous, curving, almost surreal design style which established him as the innovative leader of the Spanish Art Nouveau movement. In all his architectural works, 17 of them were classified as the national heritage, and three were inscribed on the World Heritage List. He signals the end of nineteenth-century eclectic architecture and leads the way to contemporary creations, unrestrained by the past. Gaudi had infused his soul onto the landscape and the psyche of Barcelona.
