黄本骥是清代后期湖南一位著名的学者,他博览群书,一生著述颇多,在经学、历史、地理、方志、姓氏、职官、金石文物和目录之学等方面都有令人瞩目的成就,对其著作全部整理出版目前尚无可能,《黄本骥集》收入了他有代表性的几部著作,这部集子的出版将对湖湘文化的研究产生积极的作用。

Huang Benji, a well-known scholar of Hunan during the late Qing Dynasty, was well-versed in classic readings and prolific in writ- ing. With his remarkable achievements in the studies of Confucian classics, history, geography, local chronicles, surnames, official ranks, historical relics of bronze and stone inscriptions, and the study of catalogues, it remains impossible to publish a complete collection of his works. The Collection of Huang Benji , a selection of his several representative works, with its publication, will of great positive impact upon the researches of Hunan culture.
