研精覃思 美不胜收——读《中国印刷史》增订本

A Monumental Work with Deep Thoughts and Numerous Merits: Commentary on the Revised and Enlarged Edition of A History of Chinese Printing

张秀民先生的《中国印刷史》是一部划时代的杰作,内容翔实,材料丰富,论述周详,久已享誉海内外学林。最近出版的增订本经过作者和韩琦教授的认真修订,内容更为全面,论述更为精当,特别是补充了许多前所未知的重要史料,而且附有大量珍贵的插图,极大地提高了此书的学术价值。书评对增订版的成功作了充分的肯定,同时对一些问题提出商榷意见。

As a great work of epoch-making significance, Zhang Xiumin＇s A History of Chinese Printing covers a lot of subjects, has accurate and reliable materials, makes many adequate and brilliant expositions, and thus enjoys great prestige in the academic circles all over the world. Now its revised and enlarged edition, by the author and Prof. Han Qi, has come off the press. It has been given careful revision, and provided with many new subjects and more accurate expositions. Above all, it contains a large number of important historical materials that are never known before and lots of very rare illustrations. All this endows the new edition with even greater academic value. This article highly appreciates the success of the improvement, and brings up some points for discussion.
