A Scan on Rural Migrant Workers' Living Circumstances——A Survey in 8 Cities in the South and Center of Jiangsu Province

为深入了解农民工的基本生活状态和权益保护现状,采用实地随机调查的方法,考察了江苏苏南、苏中8市农民工的受教育程度、来源地、在城市居住时间、婚姻、生育子女数、职业行业构成和经济收入等状况。调查显示,农民工生活艰难,参加社会保险的人数比例低,合法权益经常受到侵犯,据此认为,在和谐社会建设中应重视农民工困境的解除,加强立法,以使其基本权益得到有效保护。

To get a thorough idea about migrant workers＇ present living circumstances and the protection of their rights and interests, the authors investigated the rural migrant workers in 8 cities in South and Center Jiangsu. By the method of on -site and random survey they scanned the people＇s educational levels, places they came from, dwelling time in the present city, marital status, numbers they have given birth, occupational structures their employment belong to, and incomes as well. The findings show that the group of people is leading a hard life, with a small rate of joining in the social insurance, and that their rights and interests often infringed. The paper holds that in the building of the harmonious society, great importance is to be attached to their relief from the living difficulty, and legislation should be strengthened to protect their basic interests effectively.
