Reference literature is an organic and important part of the sports science paper. The article discusses the science value of reference literature in following functions：scientific explaination,scientific demonstration, scientific evaluation and scientific criterion. It elucidates the information value of reference literature with the viewpoints of scientific intercommunion and the intelligence value with the viewpoints of developing the journals＇scientific quality. It considers that the reference literature is very important basic criterion abided by the sports science papers and an efficient approach is to well exert the important function of reference literature by recognizing and mastering some citation methods. It suggests some citation rules, means, main formats and the importance and method of literature standardization.
