A special phenomenon of the Chaoshan history, overseas remittance letters played a significant part in influencing the local economy and people＇ s lives. A better insight in gained through the study of its causes of formation and motivation for its development. The paper first studies the relationships between the remittance letters and the strong family bonds for the Chaoshan people. It then looks at the relationships between the means of distributing the remittance and the harmonious longing of the clan. Thirdly, the writer analyses the psychology of the sender and the receiver. Finally the author studies the state of mind of the locals in the perspective of its cultural traditions and heritages.
