浅谈古诗英译的局限性及其处理

A Preliminary Study of the Limitations of Translating Chinese Classical Poems into English and the Solutions

我国古典诗歌意境深远、韵律严谨、形式独特,其中那种只可意会不可言传的美,即使用现代汉语也很难完美地再现出来。而中英文作为两种迥然不同的语言体系,在对等翻译中要做到意美形美音美三者兼顾更是难上加难。本文分别从"三美",即"意美、形美、音美"三个方面分析了在古诗英译中存在的局限性,并就其局限性提出了处理的办法。

With typical artistic conception, metrics and form, Chinese poetry is known throughout the world. Those unique characteristics are very hard to convey even by modern Chinese. Therefore, it will be much more difficult to combine the ＂three beauties＂ together successfully when translating the Chinese classical poetry into English, a language which is totally different from Chinese. This paper analyses the limitations of franslation from three aspects the beauty of sense, the beauty of form and the beauty of sound, and proposes some solutions to the improverment of translation.
