The flat-sided pot is one of the typical objects of the Qin culture. Through research on its naming, distribution, types, date, origin and evolutionary law, it ean be concluded that the typical Qin-style fiat-sided pot made its first appearance in the Guanzhong area and its vicinity in the mid and late Warring States period, then spread to other regions, prevailed in the Qin and Western Han dynasties, and fell and disappeared in the Eastern Han. It falls roughly into four types and several subtypes, which reflect its temporal and spatial evolution. Its diffusion and prevalence embodied the great strengthening of economic and cultural relations between different areas, and also reflected from an aspect the history of the conquest of the six states by the Qin Dynasty, the inheritance of Qin institutions by the Han and the formation of a united multinational state in the Qin and Han periods.
