The testing principle, system design and working process of an in-line linear density tester based on charge coupled device （CCD） were introduced. CCD was introduced as an image sensor of fiber linear density and a digital singnal processor （DSP） as an image processor. The measurement process of fiber linear density was simplified by using this tester which had the features Of low cost and rapid measurement.
