The electric propulsion for train ferry is the first of its kind in china. This paper describes briefly the domestically designed Yantai-Dalian train ferry project. Based on the analyzing the complexity of the shipping course, the shipping quantity and the feature of the shipping accidents of the recent years, safety measures are presented. The advantage of the electric propulsion for the train ferry is described.
