An Elementary Research on the Formation of Wei Yuan's Idea of "Learning to Administer State Affairs in Order to Apply It"

Wei Yuan was deeply concerned about the late Qing dynasty in China. From his childhood he was educated with the traditional Chinese culture and was particularly influenced by the cultures of Hunan, Jiangsu and Zhejiang.
