本文从"形象工程"的英译文引出文章主题,例析了15个时事政经词语的译文,并进一步举例说明,具有中国特色的普通词语的理解问题更突出,而专业术语的主要问题在表达。鉴于此,文章指出汉语词语的理解要结合语境和国情,译文措辞应坚持以读者为本的原则,遵循英语表达习惯和学科规范。最后提出译者与专业学者合作搞翻译的建议。

With the English versions of “形象工程”, the paper introduces C-E translation of China＇s current affairs, politics and economics as its subject. Then it briefly discusses 15 lexical items, revealing their defect in translation. With more illustrations the paper tries to show that mistaken understanding of non-technical items is more prominent whereas faulty diction is more serious in technical terms with Chinese characteristics. In view of that, the paper argues that understanding should be based on context and China＇s situations while English wording should be reader-orientated, conforming to English and academic norms. Lastly, it proposes joint efforts of translators and researchers in social sciences for the undertaking of translation.
