A Comparative Study on Differences between Chinese and Western Politeness Principles

中西方不同文化背景下人们对于礼貌的看法虽有相同之处,但更多的是差异。从中西文化差异的角度,阐述具有代表性的、分别由顾曰国和利奇提出的中西礼貌原则,对比分析中西礼貌原则的差异与成因,分析礼貌观念在中西方日常交际中误用的实例,可得出礼貌具有相对性的结论,对跨文化交际的顺利进行有一定的启发意义。

People carry out the communication by abiding by the politeness principle, but polite principle is also culture- specific. A comparison has been made between the Chinese and Western ＂Politeness Principles＂ in this paper. The differences and the causes have been analyzed comparatively. This paper aims to help language learners bear some cultural awareness and apply the maximums in both the Chinese and Western ＂Politeness Principles＂ correctly in communicative situations.
