爨是个会意字,其意义主要都与烧火做饭有关联。这个字之所以引人关注,主要是因为历史上曾经出现的爨氏家族以及由此扩大形成的爨民族和爨文化。爨氏家族是从中原迁徙到南中地区的大姓之一,始显于蜀汉,强盛于晋代,直至唐天宝五年被南诏蒙氏所灭,前后大约辉煌了700年,创造了闻名于世的爨文化。爨文化的特征,体现在民族的包容性、文化的多样性和碑刻文化三个方面。
