The rural tourism, being a new tourism activity with some special features, is now very popular with tourists and brings about much benefit for the farmers. This paper has analyzed the concept of the rural tourism, and retraced its development and patterns in both China and abroad in the past. For this kind of tourism in shanghai, the paper proposes some countermeasures to improve its further development and points out some problems which should be paid attention to.
