This paper theoretically explains the necessity and the importance of introducing mathematical models to information systems. With a real accounting system as an example, the paper shows how to use ordinary databases, which describe an application system model, its implementation, output formats and data dictionaries, to adapt to the changing system environment and user's requirements. Thus a brief, flexible and adaptable business application is achieved.
