Analysis of Stress and Cohesion Functions of Inverted Sentences in English

语言作为人类交际的工具,承担着各种各样的功能,语篇中不同句式、不同结构的选择会带来不同的意义。倒装是英语中一个重要的修辞手段,是反常规的句子结构,分两种类型:一种是强制性倒装,另一种是非强制性倒装。本文借鉴前人的研究成果,就倒装句的强调功能和衔接功能作一深入阐述。

As a tool of human communication, language bears various functions. The selection of different sentence patterns and structures brings about different meanings. Inversion is an important rhetoric means in English and an abnormal sentence structure. It is divided into two types： emphatic inversion and non- emphatic inversion. This paper makes analysis of stress and cohesion functions of inverted sentences by borrowing the former research results.
