Confirmation-seeking question is the most frequently employed indirect method by the patient to seek core medical information from the doctor in clinical consultations. After an investigation of the function, the linguistic features, and the requested content of, and the doctor＇s replies to, such questions, it is concluded that confirmation-seeking question is a language strategy chosen by the patient after considering his goal and interest, his position in doctor- patient relationship, doctor＇s psychology, pragmatic principles, and current situation of doctor-patient relationship, therefore, doctors should treat these questions seriously.
