Various Travel Demand Management (TDM) strategies were implemented during the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation held in November, 2006, which resulted in a success in terms of traffic operations. A survey was conducted to collect data such as transit volumes, traffic volumes, travel speeds, and citizen responses to these TDM strategies during the event. The results show that a significant improvement was seen in traffic operations, and in general, positive responses were reported by citizens. Based on the survey data and an analysis of the traffic operations, this paper summaries experiences of implementing TDM strategies, and presents recommendations for routine traffic operations in Beijing, and especially, for traffic operations during Beijing Summer Olympics, 2008.
