Elementary Teacher Education： Issues and Concerns

The Constitution of India envisages provisions of free and compulsory education to all children in the 6- 14 age group. With the universalization of elementary education, the educational quality is extremely urgent to be heightened. So we must strengthen the elementary teacher education. The article discusses a series of issues and concerns in the elementary teacher education. The following are readily identified： intake, status and service conditions; curriculum, quality and content; community oriented education; training duration; the process of teacher training; language or medium of instruction; in-service training, orientation and refresher courses; training institutes; teachers trainers; distance education; E-learning, multi-media, IT, ICT and so on.
