摘要
Modern minting was first introduced in this province in 1898.The machinery for Chengdu mint was produced in New Jersey and the dies were engraved in Pliladelphia. The mint was opened in 1898,but closed within a few months. And what happened thereafter was well recorded by Mr.Janvier,an engineer of the machinery manufacturer. The American made dies were poorly copied and went into continuous production for many years. As for origins of the extreme rare silver pattern set still remain uncertain,a possibility was the Birmingham Mint, where a 20-Cent specimen was found in the Mint’s collection.
