This thesis studies the internal relationship between the identity of Japanese vernacular and written language and the transition of modern Japanese literature from the perspectives of Derrida's thought on language and Saussure's innate linguistics. After a historical retrospection of the identity of Japanese vernacular and written language, the author scrutinizes the absorption and development of modern Japanese literature. Through a systematic organization and careful thinking, the author probes into their inception and growth and the former's influence on the latter. This study also gives its rational prospect for the Japanese literature in modern context.
