A Probe into Howard Goldblatt's Translation Thoughts

本文旨在分析葛浩文的翻译观:对原文和译文的忠实、翻译是一种跨文化交流活动、同时翻译又是一种背叛和重写。结论指出:虽然葛浩文认同翻译是一种背叛和重写,但忠实仍然是他指导自己翻译实践的第一准则,并且在不同情境之下灵活运用不同的翻译方法使得译文既传达了原文的形和神又易于目标语读者的理解。

This thesis studies Howard Goldblatt＇s translation thoughts, including the principle of remaining faithful to the two constituencles, the consideration of the nature of translation as a cross-cultural activity, together with seeing translation as betrayal and rewriting. Finally it comes to the conclusion： although Howard agrees that translation is betrayal and rewriting, faithfulness is still the first guidance on his C-E translation in which he tries his best to present the original form and meaning in another language.
