A Critique of the Studies of Ironic Cues

探讨反讽暗示的作用及类别,归纳并评述了前人有关反讽暗示的主要研究。指出反讽暗示在与其他语境因素的配合下,对反讽话语的理解起到了提示和促进的作用。反讽暗示内容的研究成果对考察具体语言的反讽实例有着指导性意义,进而为跨文化的反讽对比研究奠定了基础。

This paper, focused on the function and types of ironic cues, summarizes and discusses previous studies of ironic cues. It is pointed out that ironic cues do play an alerting and facilitating role in the comprehension of irony, if they are combined with other contextual sources manifesting the speaker＇ s ironic intent. The study of what constitute ironic cues can function as a guide for the empirical study of ironic utterances of a particular language data, and naturally the research result can pave way for the cross - cultural studies of ironic utterances.
