Choice and Confrontation in the Process of Modern Thought——On Argument Between Science and Metaphysics

在20世纪中国现代思想的探索发展进程中,1923年的科学与玄学论战是继五四之后又一场关涉对中西方文化不同认识和抉择的学术思想论战。笔者认为在学术层次上科学派虽然取得优势,但在哲学层面上科学与玄学的认识论相互对峙,不容相互代替;科玄论战的实质依然是中国学术思想界面对西学东渐问题所产生的意识形态分歧,这场论战展现的是东西方不同人生信仰的操持及发展路向。

During the exploration of Chinese modem thoughts,the argument on science and philosophy was another debate about the different comprehension and the different choice between the eastern and the westem culture. Although though, the scientific class wins at scholarship dimension, but, at philosophic dimension, science can＇t substitute philosophy though it works against the other. The essence of this argument is of divergence of views on western learning spreading to the East. And, thus, this argument shows the different beliefs and developing routes between the East and the West.
