Researchers typically use radiant exposure on the surface of tissue to evaluate the light dose in PDT.However,the efficacy of PDT of cancer with photosensitizer and laser radiation depends on the energy absorbed rate per unit mass of tissue and the subsequent conversion of the energy to chemical reaction product that acts upon the cells.Prediction of the effective absorbed dose in PDT is described in this paper.Data or methods of determing these relative quantities,such as extinction coefficent, quantum yield for singlet oxygen production, energy flux density at depth and concentration of sensitizer are presented.
