This paper analyzes the effect that the construction of main function area has on the development of the western area. It is considered that the construction of main function area is not merely an opportunity to the special advantage industry of the western area, it also strengthens restraint condition of the development of the western area. Speaking of the western area, the development of special advantage industries should be put on the important position based on the comparative advantage. In order to realize the western area industrialization and the sustainable development, it must speed up the mechanism innovation and chose different path of development according to the different main function area.
