Nadine Gordimer's Burgher' s Daughter is a decisive novel for her Nobel Prize. By telling a bil-dungsroman of a South Africa descendant, it explores how the heroine, who is affected by her destined political context, finally understands and undertakes her social responsibility after hesitation and introspection. The novel expresses Gordimer's idea that nobody can be ignorant of history.
