An Analysis of the Orientalism Sense of The Joy Luck Club

从东方主义视角出发,解读《喜福会》中的东方主义元素。由于所处的历史环境和特殊的文化身份,使华裔作家一方面夸大了东方与西方的差异,强化了东方文化的“他者”形象,另一方面又在一定程度解构了东方主义,从而论证了东西方两种文化平等交流的意义。

This paper aims to analyze the Orientalism in The Joy Luck Club through the perspective of Orientalism. Due to the historical environment and unique cultural identity, Chinese-American writers on one hand exaggerate the difference between the oriental and the occidental, and highlight the image of ＂otherness＂;but on the other hand, they deconstruct Orientalism to some extent to display the significance of equal exchange between the East and the West.
