The paper illustrates that PLC-based automatic control scheme is the best choice in nowadays municipal sewage treatment plant by taking for an example the processes of scheme selection and design of an automatic control system for a municipal sewage treatment plant. The author expounds in detail the scheme planning, hardware and software configurations, work principle of the sewage treatment automatic control system, and supervisory monitoring system based on Rockwell RSView32 configuration soft- ware and the organic combination of the production process automation system and the management information system of the sewage treatment plant. This instance uses as a source of valuable reference for the automation system designing and the implementing of other large-scale municipal sewage treatment plants.
