Zelda, the wife of Fitzgerald, is the archetype of many heroines in Fitzgerald's novels such as Rosharon in This Side of Paradise, Niclde in Tender is the Night and Helen in Babylon Revisited. These female images represent the ideology and behavior of the flappers in the 1920s of the U. S. A. They are beautiful, fashionable and open-minded and try to pursue material comforts, but at last they lose themselves in the roaring "Jazz Age" and ruin their love as well. Therefore, the sense of disillusionment and gloom is usually hidden in the description of the scenery of cheer and laugh in Fitzgerald's novels.
