In the cleavage characteristic stress theory a new characteristic parameter “generalized characteristic transition temperature of brittleness” has been proposed for quantitative evaluation of susceptibility to low temperature brittle ness of structural steels and their components. The present paper introduces its concept, feature and engineering value.
