Hedges are one of expressive forms of fuzzy words, they have important pragmatic values in communication. This paper, by the use of Cooperative Principle and Politeness Principle, analyzes the pragmatic basis of hedges, so as to make English learners understand and more appropriately use hedges, thus helping them to achieve the purpose of communication in English.
