Zhou Gong and the Cultural Tradition of Harmony

周公建立的以"德"、"孝"为核心价值的伦理道德体系、以"礼"、"乐"为载体的社交礼仪制度,以及"德治"、"仁政"的政治模式构成了中华民族和谐文化的基本框架,并直接为儒家所继承和发展,成为影响整个中华民族文化性格和历史发展的深层根源。

Ever since ancient times, China has been called ＂the land of courtesy and propriety. ＂ It is Zhou Gong, an aristocrat in the Zhou Dynasty about three thousand years ago, who first developed the ethics in politics and the cultural harmony among Chinese people. The ethic system represented by ＂De＂, morality, and ＂Xiao＂, piety; the sociality system represented by ＂Li＂, courtesy, and ＂Yue＂, music; and the political system represented by ＂ Dezhi＂ , governing the nation with kindness, and ＂Renzheng＂ , loving the people, have formed the basic framework of the harmonious culture of the Chinese nation. These systems have been inherited by the Confucians, who have developed them into the deep foundation for the formation of the cultural character and historical development of Chinese people.
