From the perspective of Martin Heidegger＇s theory on death, the paper attempts to reveal the origin and significance of beats＇ existence in On the Road, and their life attitude as well. The paper first introduces Heidegger＇s death theory and the importance of death to life, analyzes the ＂gradual death＂ and ＂instant death＂ displayed in the novel, and finally points out that the beats, in front of the impending ＂deaths＂, make their free choice of authentic existence.
