英汉翻译中形式与意义之间的平衡问题

Balance between Form and Meaning in Translation of English and Chinese

翻译最理想的标准是内容和形式上全面忠实的"信",语言是内容意义与形式风格的矛盾统一,所以翻译也只能是译文与原文在内容和形式上既对立又统一的动态关系。由于人们的生活环境和历史文化背景不同,汉英两种语言又分属不同语系,内容与形式之间的矛盾常常是翻译过程中难于处理的问题,而解决这一问题的关键在于尽量保持形义之间的"平衡"。

The most ideal standard in translation is the comprehensive and loyal＂faithfulness＇in both the content and the form. Language is composed of meaning and style;therefore, translation should be only a dynamic and unified relationship between the translation and its original text in their content and form. Different people have various living surroundings and historical and cultural backgrounds; what is more, Chinese and English are two languages belonging to different language systems,so the contradictory between content and form is often a troublesome problem in thertranslating process. And the key to the very question hes in keeping the balance between the form and meaning. This paper mainly analyzes four typical corresponding relations between content and style in translation.
