The author of Journey to the West, Wu Cheng'en thinks desire is dirty. He takes it for granted that women who have lust are dirty, too. They are the villains of the piece opposing to Tripitaka and his apprentices, and their ultimate fates are closely connected to their lust: those who have lust come to a sticky end eventually while those who have no win great homage from the world. In a word, how the women (female) are portrayed depends on whether they have lust or not.
