摘要
早期来华新教传教士在面对中国民众对基督教普遍持冷漠态度,在探索对华传教方法过程中,认知教育活动不失为一条可以介入中国人文化生活的有效途径,并可借此将西方的教育制度与教育方法传入中国,以此影响一代中国新人,而利于基督教在华传播。基于此目的,他们以西方近代教育理念为标准,就教育目标、内容、方法及管理等方面批判中国的传统教育制度,并对西方教育模式在华的施行进行了探索与实践,开创了近代教会教育的历史,并在客观上推动了中国近代教育的变革。
Faced with the indifference toward Christianity by Chinese, the early Protestant missionaries to China started to investigate the method of preaching and came to realize that education could create an effective way to get involved in the Chinese cultural life and could thus influence a new generation favorable to Christianity through the introduction of the Western education system and mode. With this objective, they criticized the Chinese traditional education system on the educational goal, content, ways and administration according to the modern Western education ideal, probed the possibility of carrying out the Western education mode in China and made some actual practice, which created a new era of modern church education and stimulated the evolution of Chinese modern education.
