Excavated between February and July, 2004, the Tianluoshan Site is located at the Xiang'ao Village of Sanqishi Town, Yuyao City, Zhejiang Province. It lies to the north of the Yao River valley, in the middle of a small basin surrounded by low mounts, and to its southwest, the Hemudu Site is about seven kilometers away. The Tianluoshan Site dates back to six or seven thousand years. The excavation area is 300 square metres, incuding building and grave remains. The unearthed objects include wood and bone objects, stonewares, potteries, jade ornaments, basketworks and some crops. It is revealed by drilling and excavation that this site is an ancient village at the foot of a mountain and by a river. It is to date, among the known sites of Hemudu culture, the best preseived in terms of abeveground environment and underground remains. It has similar physical scale and temporal span as the Hemudu Site and is extremely valuable to the study of the origins of the Hemudu culture.
