The Name and Nature of Translatology

"翻译学"经过多年沉浮终于成为公认的学科名称。中外学者关于翻译学体系构建的百家争鸣一方面为本学科的迅速发展创造了声势,另一方面也揭示了翻译学名实难符的境况。从逻辑学角度看,这是因为学界在"翻译学"概念的理解上存在偏差。本文从厘清概念入手,运用形式逻辑基本原理,在广泛借鉴中外众家方案的基础上,采用主体客体二分法的研究方式,提出了一个以翻译现象中的人、事、物为具体研究对象,层次封闭与开放相结合的翻译学架构新设想。

After years of struggle and competition, Translatology became the discipline. The disputes between translation scholars both at home and abroad reveal the incongruence between its name and nature while giving the discipline an opportunity for unprecedented development. Observations from a logical point of view find that this dilemma arises from multiunderstandings of the concepts the term Translatology denotes, which constitutes the starting point of this article. Conforming to formal-logical principles, drawing from extensive literature, and employing the Western traditional philosophical dichotomy between the Subject and the Object, the article puts forward a new 4-level scheme of Translatology, with its focus on the three kinds of elements of translation phenomena, i. e. participants, events, and tangible materials. Areas for further research are identified.
