A Cognitive Explanation of Language Acquisition

摘要 认知语言学的认知观与天生论的认知观有很大的不同,表现为后者只承认语言的心智属性而前者还同时强调语言的认知合理性。语言能力与人的基本认知能力不可分,所以人的固化的语法知识也像其概念系统一样以范型—实例—引申的关系组织成一个复杂的网络系统。 Cognitive linguistics is different from the traditional innativist theories in that it not only accepts the mental attributes of language competence but also sticks to the cognitive plausibility of grammar. The usage- based model, which attaches importance to frequency, in both language input and production, can well explain the representation, historical change and acquisition of phonology, lexicon and syntactic constructions. Token frequency determines the degree of entrenchment of the lexis or constructions. Yet, it is type frequency, not token frequency, that affects the productivity of the schema.
