Another Talk about If It Leads to No Logic without 'to Be'

如何看待"是"对逻辑的影响,这不仅是一个中国逻辑史研究的问题,也涉及到一些重要的逻辑哲学问题。本文考察了"是"字在传统词项逻辑理论中的作用,分析了逻辑与语言的关系,阐明了古汉语中没有"是"对于中国古代没能产生类似于西方传统词项逻辑理论的重要影响。

In ancient Chinese there was no any word similar to the English word'to be';while'Shi'was not used as a copula before the Qin dynasty.The situation resulted in that no Chinese theory was similar to the western traditional logic in ancient China.And a viewpoint has generated from that.It claims that it leads to no logic without'to be'.In our discussion,we think,how to look upon the influence of'to be'in the development of logic? That is not only a question raised in the research of the history of Chinese traditional logic,but also a question of philosophical importance.The paper examines the effects of'to be'on logic,analyzes the relation between logic and language,and demonstrates that the absence of'to be'in ancient Chinese really affects greatly on the development of the logic theory in ancient China.
