Breaking the Limitation and Weed Through the Old to Bring Forth the New——Iran’s Modern Thinker Soroush and His Theory on Religion Modernity

当代伊朗思想家琐如士认为,伊斯兰不仅在观念上能与民主相容,而且在政治实践中,一个宗教国家完全可以建成一个宗教民主国家。然而问题的根本在于我们如何理解宗教及宗教价值,如何随着时代和历史环境的变化来革新我们的传统宗教观念。琐如士从认识论、国家的执政理念等层面提出了一系列主张,其核心结论是,作为价值观的宗教与作为管理国家事务的手段和方法的民主,不仅在理论上可以调和,在实际政治生活中也是必要的;宗教观念的转变是伊斯兰教应对时代变迁的出路。

Abdolkarim Soroush is a famous Iranian modern thinker, he thinks that Islam and democracy can coexist in ideology, and he also thinks a religious democracy state could be established on the basis of religious state, and this theory is contradicted with that of popular west thinkers. But the main problem is that how we understand the religion and its value, how we innovate our traditional concept of religion with the changes of times and social environment. The core conclusion of his theory is that he thinks the religion as a value and the democracy as measures to manage national affairs could compromise, and so that it is necessary to practice in political life. He thinks it could be a way to innovate religion idea for Islam to deal with the changes of times.
