Besides a checklist of Chinese stem sawflies, four new species of Janus Stephens of Hartigiini are described in the present paper. 1. Janus sheni sp.nov. (figs.1-2) Holotype♂, Zhengzhou, Henan Province, VI- 1982. This new species is similar to J. rufoventralis Wei,but J. rufoventralis differs from the new species by the malar space distinctly narrower than the diameter of an ocellus, the ocellar triangle quite low, the front ocellus much remote from the front margins of eyes, posterior margin of head only slightly emarginated, the hind femur reaching to the 4th abdominal sternite, in front wing the cell 1Rs about equal to 2Rs, mesoscutellum quite polished, scutum with distinct punctures, all sternites and the lateral margins of tergites yellowish brown and the body smaller. 2. Janus punctatenus, sp.nov. (figs.3-4) Holotype♂, Changsha, Hunan, 28-VI-1984, Guo Haiming. Paratypes: 3♂♂, Changsha, Hunan (Hunan Agricultural University). This new species is allied to J. rufoventralis Wei, but the latter differs from the new species by the following characters: POL longer than OOL, antenna 24 segmented, Scutellum polished, hind femur short, only reaching to the 4th sternites, front nervulus remote from vein M, the 3rd joint of maxillary palpus 3 times wider than the 4th joint, subgenital plate without node, clypeus with a large yellow spot, etc. 3. Janus rufithorax, sp.nov (fig.5) Holotype♀, Shennongjia: Tianchi, 13-VI-1985. This new species is quite different from other known species of the genus except for J. cephoides Wei, which has also the 3rd antennal joint shorter than the 4th joint, the 4th joint more than 3 times longer than its width and head in lateral view as long as height. Howe ver, rufithorax can be easily distinguished from cephoides by its quite different body color, the structure of antenna, malar space, ocellar triangle, pronotum, venation and sheath, etc. 4. Janus bellus, sp.nov. Holotype♀, Yunnan: Weixi, VI-1994, T. Naito (Kunming Institute of Zoology, Academia Sinica). This new species is a very beautiful one in Janus and much different from its congeners by the shining yellow body with a few black spots, which is somewhat similar to Linomorhpa fulva (Takeuchi) of Allantinae, Tenthredinidae, J. bellushas front wing with lr entirely absent, cell Rs in hind wing opened, hence, it belongs to Janus piri group.
