"The Paradoxes of Feudalism" and the Feudal States in Medieval Western Europe

封建主义范式的主流叙事,强调封臣-封土两大基石对中古西欧封建国家的主导作用。"封建主义的悖论"则以另类的叙事,揭示封建国家诸多准封建或者非封建的特征。悖论现象反映了西方封建主义范式的理论危机。

The paradigm of feudalism, fief and vassal as its essences, always overstresses the weakness of the feudal states in medieval Western Europe under the function of feudalism. However, 'the paradoxes of feudalism', such as system of family and kinship, relations of friends, different groups and communities, etc., represent different scenes of feudal states in the middle Ages. This paper is an attempt to observe and analyze historically the characters of feudal states through the angle of view of 'the paradox of feudalism'. It is time for us, indeed, to rethink profoundly the theory and paradigm of non-Marxist’s feudalism.
