Hydroquinone monocarbonylate is of great use for depigmentation of skin.The synthesis of hydroquinone monoprapanoate was improved.The ethyl acetate solution of hydroquionone and propanoyl chloride was cooled in ice water bath,and reacted with triethylamine to give the title compound in 80% yield.
