“同居”词义源流考

On the Evolvement of Tongju

"同居"是汉语常用词之一,最初作动词,表示"同住一处或共同居住";汉代引申出"未分家之亲属"。此后由前两项意义共同引申出"夫妻共同生活"。在现代"未婚男女共同生活"一义从前几项意义分化出来,在现代汉语中最终取代"同居"的其他用法成为常用义。探讨"同居"的用法变化及其原因,可以为汉语词汇研究以及语文辞书编纂提供新的线索。

tongju is a highly used word in modem Chinese. At first, it was a verb that means to live together. Its noun usage comes into being in Han dynasty, meaning people who live together. It becomes a derogatory term today, meaning the phenomenon of unmarried two living together. This article provides a new clue to research on this modem Chinese term and compiling of dictionaries.
