The Status Quo of Folk Sculpture of Tianshui and its Market effects

天水民间的木雕艺术技艺精湛,在天水种类繁多的民间艺术中曾扮演着重要的角色。而现在却有面临失传的危险。回顾天水木雕工艺历史,研究其发展现状,对了解木雕工艺的发展状况、发掘其潜在的艺术内涵和经济价值都有意义。当然,民间艺术的保护与生存、发展是一把双刃剑,需要管理部门与民间艺人共同来关注。

The folk sculpture of Tianshui, which has proved to be a very outstanding and exquisite form of craft, experienced a very long history and embodied lots of industriousness of folk craftsmen. Although it has played a very important role in a great number of folk arts in Tianshui, it faces the danger of extinction. The author argues that some art implication and economic values could be explored by our research into its present situation and future trend, while our investigation will shed light on its problems at present. Finally, we propose that the protection of folk art and its existence and development are just like the two sides of a coin which acquires attention both from folk craftsmen and the institutions.
