"袂"和"袖"在"衣袖"这个义位上,形成同义关系。东汉时期,口语中"袖"已开始了替换"袂"的进程,魏晋两朝更替进程加快,最终在唐代口语中完成了"袖"对"袂"的替换。
The Chinese characters ＂袂＂ and ＂袖＂ are synonymy, both signifying ＂衣袖＂（＂sleeve＂）. In the Eastern Han Dynasty, ＂袖＂ began to replace ＂袂＂ in the spoken language. And in the Wei Dynasty and the Jin Dynasty, the replacement speed quickened. Finally, in the Tang Dynasty, the replacement was completed.
