Recent years have witnessed a revival of interest in Darwinism in post-modern historical imagination. Considerable research has been devoted to the reassessment of Darwinian ideas and their implications and impacts from different perspectives and with different theoretical approaches. This paper first gives a brief survey of the new surge of Darwinian novels in postmodern historical writing and moves on to a comparative analysis of the different insights and narratives Darwinism generated in Victorian period and the postmodern era respectively. The analysis focuses on Byatt's 1992 novella Morpho Eugenia, in which she creates a young Darwinist William Adamson, who is transformed from a detached observer to a self-asserting humanist. In a sense, Byatt has transformed a Darwinian story into a Bildungsroman.
